The beginning of preparedness is confidence, creative problem solving, self reliance and common sense. For our young preppers this means learning to do for themselves and contributing to their family.

Daily Preparedness

Starting with the very basics of practical preparedness. Someone should always know where they are, they should work on knowing their way home and practice good decision making.

  1. Always tell someone where you’re going. Adults are terrible at this, but it’s an easy one to model once you make it a habit. If you’re going out hiking, camping, boating or otherwise adventuring or traveling, leave a message with someone reliable about where you’re going and when.
  2. Know how to find home and homes of local friends and family. This will take some time to learn. Beyond being able to memorize their own name, address and guardians’ phone numbers, could your kids get themselves home if own their own? Start small, when going for a walk ask them to guide you back from around the corner or the end of the street. Make a game of backseat navigator when driving to your nearest friend or family member by asking them which way to go at each turn and helping them to discover landmarks along the way.
